Are the days drawing in?

 

 

It's now a month since the 24th June, or Midsummer's Day, which falls just after the longest day of the year.  I know that after that date the days are going to start getting shorter, start drawing in, but I still find it hard to come to terms with that fact.  I mean, many of us haven't even started our summer holidays yet and you're telling me that we are already heading towards autumn?

I also resent the fact that I'm getting publicity emails from budget flight airlines telling me 'there is still some summer left'. Yes, there is!  I haven't even started my summer yet, or that's what it feels like, at least.  True, the heat here in Valencia has been overwhelming but still, summer for me means time off.   My students and I have been slogging away at an intensive course, which came to an end today, and we are in dire need of a good, long rest.

Another thing that gets on my nerves is the advertisements for 'back to school' material.  All countries are guilty: La vuelta al cole, le retour, Zurück in die Schule... Give me a break! I'm looking forward to catching up with friends, reading, finishing an online course (at last) and just chilling out. Whatever you do this summer, I hope you come back feeling refreshed and ready for whatever September brings. Oh, and don't forget the eclipse on 12th August!
