Binge-watching, once a rare indulgence, has become an everyday pastime thanks to streaming platforms releasing whole seasons _________ once. While it may feel harmless, research suggests that consuming hours of television in a single sitting __________ detrimental effects.

Firstly, binge-watching triggers the release of dopamine, _______ so-called “feel-good” neurotransmitter. Each episode provides a sense of reward and anticipation, encouraging viewers to stay glued to the screen. This neurological loop resembles the mechanism behind other addictive behaviours, making ________ easy to lose track of time. This, in turn, means that getting out and taking exercise may take second place.

Memory is another casualty. Studies have shown that although binge-watchers recall details vividly immediately _________ finishing a series, their memory of the plot declines faster compared to viewers who spread episodes over days or weeks. This is _________ dissimilar to cramming the nights before an exam and then forgetting what you had learned shortly after taking that exam!

In addition, if you watch series deep into the night, _________ can disrupt circadian rhythms, leading to poor sleep quality and weakened concentration during the day. Again, this can be compared to pulling all-nighters before an exam in the hope that this last-minute revision will result in a good exam grade.  Unfortunately, poor focus during the exam ________ to exhaustion is usually the result.

In short, moderation is usually key to getting the most out of a series, and being constant is key to getting good grades ___________ harming your health.
