It was a documentary about marketing tricks that got _____ interested in the psychology behind advertising. I had no idea how much these strategies encompass - from colour theory to music, and even the subtle placement of products in films. The shrewdest campaigns often rely on consumers making emotional decisions _________ than logical ones.
Looking back, I realise I _________ to be quite gullible. I once bought a ridiculously expensive face cream simply because the packaging was striking and the advertisement featured a celebrity I admired. Bad timing, too; I was broke that month and had to live ______ pasta for weeks.
Some people set great store by brand names, believing that expensive automatically means better. ________ are easily swayed by trends or peer pressure. Regardless of how clever the marketing is, I now try to be more critical. I sometimes ________ issue with how companies manipulate insecurities to sell products, especially in the beauty industry.
One product I will never understand is the so-called "luxury" garden gnome. It was not only unsightly, but it cost more than my monthly rent. And yet, it sold _______in no time!
If there were a prize for unnecessary purchases, I’d say my flatmate would win hands _________ - she once bought a handbag shaped like a pineapple.
